Life Skills
for Teens Workshops
The
Optimist Club of Calgary wants to introduce you to theories and concepts that
can help you increase your self-confidence, take control of your life, and
provide you with techniques to achieve greater success and happiness.
Professional coaches lead one-day workshops on
designated Saturdays throughout the year. Each workshop is self-contained and
you may attend as many as you wish to.
THE WORKSHOPS ARE FREE OF ANY
CHARGES AND INCLUDE A LIGHT LUNCH, REFRESHMENTS, AND PROGRAM MATERIALS.

Power of Focus for Students
We are privileged to have Andrew Hewitt, the
international speaker and best-selling author of The Power of Focus for College Students as our facilitator for this
workshop.
He combines elements of two
of his most popular workshops: The
Passion Puzzle and The 7 Secrets of Ultra-Successful
Students. The Passion Puzzle helps you identify things that you are
passionate about, thereby making you aware
of the types of careers best
suited for you. In addition, you will be provided with practical strategies for
taking the next steps.
The 7 Secrets of Ultra-Successful Students provides an action plan to
make college the best investment in your life and shows how to launch yourself
into a successful career.

People Effectiveness Training
An interactive workshop
designed specifically for our Life Skills for Teens program from elements of
the Gordon Training International organization that have been proven and tested
around the world for over 44 years.
Judy Arnell from Calgary, a
GTI Certified Trainer, conducts this workshop. It offers you specific
communication and conflict resolution skills needed to build and maintain
effective relationships. It focuses on active listening and, using
role-playing, it addresses problem-solving, ways to approach and resolve
communications roadblocks, and the importance of compassion in understanding
others.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective
Teens
This is an overview of Stephen Covey’s highly popular, “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens”, You will learn time-tested principles and how to apply
them to the tough issues and life-changing decisions you face.
Mike Suto, a Certified Facilitator from the Franklin
Covey (Canada) organization provides anecdotes, real-life scenarios, and
relevant interactive exercises to teach you to believe in your own abilities.
These seven characteristics are commonly shared by happy and successful teens
the world over. Habits 1, 2, and 3 deal with self-mastery called the “Private
Victory”. Habits 4, 5, and 6 deal with relationships and
teamwork. Habit 7, is the habit of renewal. It feeds all the other six
habits.
This workshop provides you with a framework for boosting
self-image, building friendships, resisting peer pressure, achieving goals, and
improving communication and relationships with your parents.
